As a building product timber has many advantages over other building materials, none more so than the fact that it is good for the planet. Buying from well managed sources in short means that more trees are planted than are cut down meaning we have a continued source of supply of timber to sell to the trade and public and the environment continues to benefit with the reduction of CO2 in atmosphere.
Responsible Purchasing
At S V Timber we have a policy of buying from sustainable sources where ever possible. We have taken the time to assess our suppliers and determine which ones can provide chain of custody through such organisations as the FSC and PEFC. You can download a copy of our Responsible Purchasing Policy from this website or email us and we will be happy to post you a copy.
What is chain of custody?
Chain of custody is an unbroken link of documentation taking the tree from the very forest it was planted in to the end user. In short it provides total traceability from the end user right back to where the tree was first planted. By purchasing timber from suppliers who are FSC and PEFC registered consumers can then have faith that they are not contributing to deforestation and are in fact helping the environment.
FSC and PEFC
SV Timber are members of both the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes). For a copy of our FSC or PEFC certificates please ask and we will either post or email you a copy.
